News from the press-Mike Meraz is visiting again

In October of 2011, we published a Chapbook of Mike Meraz’s poetry called “Writhing and Alive“. His words resonated with many people across the globe, so we invited Mike back to put together another Chapbook of his words. Having lived in New Orleans, many of these pieces were written while living and breathing that timeless air.

In a few short weeks, “The Art of Work” will roll off our presses and we could not be more excited. Here is a sample of Mike’s new work:

The World Needs New Orleans

in New Orleans
if you look anywhere
you will see the words
“be nice or leave.”

or in front of the bars
the sign does not read
“Happy Hour”
but “Lost dog. See bartender inside.”

this is what people love
about New Orleans:
non-commercialism,
non-capitalism.

it is the girl next door you never married.
it is the eternal perch for you to rest on.

you won’t get rich here
but the world does not need
another money-maker.

Take-it-to-the-street-poetry would like to thank all of the people that submitted their work for this issue. We have published & non-published writers and we are pleased they want to be a part of what we do here. Share their art/words with the world for free.

Summer is winding down and it’s almost time for us to fire up the presses
at take-it-to-the-street-poetry. We are currently accepting submissions for The Nexxuss, Vol 21 which we plan to have published the first week of September.

If you are new here and not sure what we are about, please read our mission statement on the “tittsp home” tab. Our volumes are published and given away freely to any and everybody.

We are currently accepting submissions for poetry and prose pieces (prose not to exceed 300 words).

Doing GOOD in the neighborhood

Many of you know about my non-monetary paying but oh so rewarding other job, founder/editor/word slinger of http://takeittothestreetpoetry.com/ . A few months ago we celebrated our 1st year anniversary and it shows no signs of slowing down. On the contrary, it’s growing more with each volume we publish.

As an Army veteran myself, I have a strong allegiance to my fellow soldiers and want to include them (for reasons listed in the link I will provide at the end of this post so please read) in our literary/art tribe. We are a non-profit organization so I have jumped into a contest of sorts sponsored by GOOD Magazine in hopes of getting a $1,000 grant. That money can do so much for many.

So here I am asking (quietly begging) for your support. It costs nothing but a mouse click on my event page.

A few months ago, my good friend William Crawford asked me to read a manuscript for his new book of poetry. While I was honored and excited to get an insiders peek at his new work, I also was very nervous. I may publish poetry zines and purchase many poetry books, but here he was asking for my words which would be out there for all the world to read.

Summertime and the living is easy. I just wanted to write a quick post to wish you all a fun and relaxing summer. I hope your days are productive and nights full of good things to write. (Remember, submissions are open 24×7, just like Ihop.)

The next issue of The NEXXUSS will be published in September. Even an Editor & Word Slinger needs a few months of downtime.
Over the summer our homestead (site) will be getting an overhaul so look for those new changes as well. New ideas are always forming as to how this non-profit can grow and reach more people and this is one way:

I’m headed back to New Orleans end of June and will be making poetry drops. If you would like your words to be down in the bayou, then this volume is for you.
